All about our new Aquamarine collection
What is Aquamarine?
Aquamarine is also known as the March birthstone. It is a relatively rare silicate mineral and its name comes from the combination of the Latin words aqua (meaning water) and marina (meaning the sea - or the colour of the sea).
Aquamarine stones can range from a very light, almost transparent blue/ green colour, to a rich vibrant blue colour. Most aquamarine has a very light colour, particularly in smaller stones. Darker coloured stones are the rarest and most valuable.
Where is it found?
Aquamarine is mainly found in Brazil, which is where the largest piece of Aquamarine in the world was found. It is also found in many other countries including Madagascar, Kenya, Russia and the United States.
What are the benefits?
Aquamarine is said to be calming, soothing and cleansing. It is a stone of courage and its calming energies are said to help quiet the mind and reduce stress.
Aquamarine was said to be the treasure of Mermaids and was used by sailors as a good luck charm. It was thought to offer them protection against misfortunes out at sea.
